Hey Lovelies =)
As you might already know, I’m part of the RainPow Nails Project – a bunch of girls, who love to paint their nails. Each month we challenge ourselves to create designs for a specific topic. We collect an share those designs on a special blog, which can be found here. Usually I just post a teaser here with one or two pictures and a link to the original posting, but as the blog is German only, I will try to post the complete description and all of the pictures here as well – in english.
This month’s challenge is Heroes vs. Villains which I was super excited about. Love series and movies featuring superheroes, because like all fantasy / science fiction genres they present a possibility to view very realistic real problems from a drifferent angle. Unfortunately I thought I wouldn’t like science fiction and superheroes for a very long time. I have no idea what caused this – maybe I just picked up the wrong science fiction literature in my teens when I was used to reading fantasy novels. I loved „hitchhickers guide to the galaxy“ (the book) but thought it was just an exception. However – I recently found ot that I was horribly wrong and try to catch up ever since.
For this challenge, I had to come up with a superhero (or villain) I knew, liked and could bring on my nails. My nailart-skills are limited, so a full blown batman-design was off limits. The flash would have been doable, as I have some nice flash-shaped vinyls, but to be honest I neiter read the comics nor watched the series. I did watch Arrow, so I saw him there a couple of times, but not enough to decide weather I like him or not.
In case you haven’t already guessed – in the end, I chose Deadpool. He’s not the classical superhero – more of an anti-hero, but that’s what I like so much about him. His disrespectfulness to everyone around him, including himself is so refreshing in the whole prince-charming-world of superheros. The jokes in the movie might have been politically incorrect a few times, but as they were never specifficly aimed at any minority, I could absolutely live with that fact. Another thing I love about Deadpool is his ability to break the fourth wall – to reflect about the fact that he is only a fictional character and speak directly to the reader / watcher.
To create this design, I used 474 Can’t Beet Royalty by Sally Hansen, which I got as a sample. It’s just the perfect classic red to match Deadpools costume and applied easily. I crossed two pieces of striping tape on my ring finger to paint the two diamond shapes that are visible on his mask and a dotting tool for his eyes. In retrospective It probably would have been easier to paint some black polish on my silicone mat, cut it in shape and place it on my nails but I didn’t think about that. For the other nails I just taped a triangle with some more striping tape and filled them in with black polish.
I’m quite pleased with the outcome – the effort was quite minimal and I think you can see on first glance, which superhero I tried to depict in this nailart.
Who ist your favourite superhero or villain?
